I really love dreams. The older I get the more I get this feeling that “reality” is just like dreams. I want to create street-scene paintings that are visually ethereal.

The street in this painting is Via dei Penitenzieri in Rome. I was in Rome for a day during a trip to Italy in 2023 and I took some photos on this street because I really like the colours and the rustic look of these buildings.
I added these kids chasing bubbles to create a dreamy, almost surreal, scene. This is inspired by watching kids chasing bubbles made by a street performer in Lucca.

I love walking in the rain, especially when I’m in cities. This was a very rainy day in Auckland when I was there in December 2022. I added a touch of dreaminess to the painting by putting these characters in florescent raincoats at the crossing.
The street in the painting is Karangahape Road, known as K'Road by locals. I titled the painting Karangahape because of the story behind the name. (You can read a short summary about the name here: https://artnow.nz/walks/karanga-a-hape )

The idea of this painting came from a scene I came across during a walk after a snow fall. The kids were so excited by something as simple as playing in the snow.
I believe as we get older, our way of looking at our lives are often not helping us to make the most of our time here. We often forget we are the dreamers.
